Lighting Design
Lighting design and programming for your musical, straight play, concert, or convention. I no longer offer architectural designs for homes or business of either new construction or renovations. I am still consulting for new builds and renovations of theatrical venues, however, I only offer consultation and initial rep plot designs for new installations. Installation Inspection And Consultation For New Lighting System Installs
This service is mostly for new theater builds, though in some cases theater renovations can also apply. The additional check-ups are to ensure your lighting system is being installed properly. Please note that this service is only applicable to the lighting installation. The issue with most new theaters I have seen is that even though the theater is built by a “theater company” the installers are construction workers who don’t know how a theater is supposed to operate. Some of the consultations are also provided by people who have never worked in a theater. I have been to theaters that have had the electrics in the wrong positions, insufficient amount of circuits for the space, improperly wired electrics, lesser quality gear than what was actually paid for, and consoles insufficient to operate in the space or that won’t last. Make sure your new space doesn’t fall victim to poor construction and greed driven shortcuts. If you are not 100% confident you can identify the equipment purchased and verify that the installation specs are sufficient for what you need you should have it checked. Mis-configuration and/or improper install of your lighting system can make you stage less than usable. You don’t want to do a musical production under 24 strip lights and 6 front lights. My goal is to help you make sure you are getting the most out of your space, 4 out of the 4 of the last installs I have check have been incorrect in some way, which is why I have added check-ups to verify the install design is being followed. We have also found cheaper gear substituted in place of what was originally purchased, as well as gear purchased because one of the consulting companies said it was a “good deal” only to find they were overcharged for inferior or outdated equipment . With a knowledgeable impartial consultant, you can guarantee to get the most for your money and the maximum performance out of your space.
